During my time as an intern with Marmon Foodservice Technologies, I was tasked with writing an informational article about how their refrigeration brand, Silver King, is transitioning all their products to run on R-290 refrigerant. The goal of this article was to inform our customers while also positioning the company as eco-friendly. R-290 has an exponentially smaller effect on the environment than the previously used refrigerants. I ran into a challenge, however. Since this topic was technical and science-related, I needed to choose my words carefully so anyone could read the article and understand easily. Since I am no expert in refrigeration, I set up a meeting with one of the engineers working on the transition, and he was happy to clarify some information and help me understand the topic better. After our meeting, I was able to finish and submit a draft I felt good about. This experience truly showed me the value in cross-functional collaboration, as well as the importance in fully understanding something before you make any big decisions or claims.
